Week 13 hosted three exciting games. the Lake Raiders (9-3-0) vs. the Saints (3-9-0); the Mustangs (4-6-2) vs. the Kings (4-5-3); the Bulldogs (8-2-2) vs. the Wolves (3-6-3).
Game 1 (Lake Raiders vs. Saints) Whenever the Saints & Raiders meet the sparks fly and this game was no exception. Back to back “In the crease” infractions by the Raiders Brendon Myrie to start off the first period put the Lake Raiders in the hole early. First period markers by Saints’ Jennifer Raycraft (unassisted) and Brandy Edwards (unassisted) and the Raiders were down 2-0. The 2nd period saw the Lake Raiders move closer with an unassisted goal by Jeremy Schofield but a quick counter by Saints’ Brandy Edwards (unassisted) drew the margin back to 3-1. The 3rd period saw the Saints’ Brandy Edwards notch 3 more tallies and the Lake Raiders’ Jeremy Schofield could only muster 2 of his own. Final 6-3 Saints over Lake Raiders.
Game 2 (Kings vs. Mustangs) saw the surging Mustangs take on the lagging Kings. In Period one the Kings came out flying and saw Isaac Vescio (David Donnelly) & David Donnelly (Isaac Vescio) notch 2 markers and things were looking good for the crown wearers. With just 2 minutes left in the first, the Mustangs’ Nicole Neeson took a pass from the newly acquired Elyas Abdullah and the margin was one. The last minute heroics by the Mustangs’ Neeson brought the ponies to life and the period was all Mustangs. Two tallies by Mustangs’ top scorer Roberto Monteiro put the Mustangs up 3-2 by periods end. Period three saw Monteiro (Sergio Correia) add to the Mustangs lead (4-2) before the Kings’ Donnelly (Kevin Shek) could bury one and try to initiate a Kings rally. The Mustangs quickly extinguished any Kings hopes with another three unanswered markers (2 unassisted efforts from Neeson and another from Elyas Abdullah). Final 7-3 Mustangs over Kings.
Game 3 (Bulldogs vs. Wolves) saw the apparently unstoppable Bulldogs take on the struggling Wolves in an eleven goal affair. Period one had the Wolves jump out to an initial lead with a solo effort by Saverio Romano. The Wolves lead though was short lived as the Bulldogs’ sharpshooters popped in 4 goals in rapid concession (3 Jerry Mariano / 1 Franco Paonessa) and things were looking dim for the Wolves. With just a minute remaining in the opening frame, the Wolves found some life and Saverio Romano (assisted by Matt Vocino) and Saverio Romano (assisted by Jessica Pollard) had the pack back within one (4-3 Bulldogs). Period two saw both sides exchange a marker with a Bulldogs’ Mariano / Paonessa effort and a Wolves’ Romano / Vocino effort. The buzzer rang with the scoreboard reading 5-4 B-dogs. The third period was a copy of the second with both sides exchanging tallies, Bulldogs’ (Mariano / unassisted) and Wolves’ (Vocino / Romano). Final 6-5 Bulldogs over Wolves.
