Week 12 hosted three exciting games. the Mustangs (3-6-2) vs. the Wolves (3-5-3); the Saints (3-8-0) vs. the Bulldogs (7-2-2); the Kings (4-4-3) vs. the Lake Raiders (8-3-0).
Game 1 (Mustangs vs. Wolves) saw the return of the Mustangs Roberto Monteiro from the injury list and he came out firing on all cylinders. Monteiro scored 3 unanswered goals (all unassisted) and it took almost until the 1 minute mark before the Wolves recovered their composure and Saverio Romano took a nice pass from Mitchell Stark bringing the Wolves within two. The second period saw the Wolves trying to continue their rally with an unassisted effort by Saverio Romano at 1:48 making the score 3-2 Mustangs. Monteiro then took control again and reclaimed the Mustangs three goal lead with two more unassisted markers. The third saw the continued domination by the Mustangs with two more tallies by Roberto Monteiro and then single efforts from Nicole Neeson and Muntha Ahmed. Final 9-2 Mustangs over Wolves.
Game 2 (Saints vs. Bulldogs) saw the high flying Bulldogs take on the slumping Saints and it didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to find the back of the net. Bulldogs’ Franco Paonessa / Jerry Mariano duo scored twice (3:30 / 6:25). Thirty seconds later the Saints’ Brandy Edward notched a solo marker to make it 2-1 Bulldogs but the B-Dogs weren’t finished and the Mariano / Paonessa due came back with one more tally and an unassisted effort by Meghan Hines closed off the period 4-1 Bulldogs. Period 2 started off as a much tighter affair until the Dogs Dynamic Duo (Paonessa / Mariano) clicked again at 11:50 making it 5-1. At 14:10 Bulldogs Scott Allen took a pass from Franco Paonessa and moved the scoreboard to 6-1. Period 3 saw the Bulldogs but away 2 more making the Saints 4 goal rally too little too late. Final 8-5 Bulldogs over Saints.
Game 3 (Kings vs. Lake Raiders) was a very low scoring affair with some outstanding defensive efforts from both sides. It took until 11:13 of the first before the goose egg was cracked when Lake Raiders “S-Dog” Sean Celsie took a corner pass from Erin Vassilakos and popped in his first goal of the season. The second period saw both sides exchange chances but no one could get it pass the “Guardians of the Gabled Gondolas” and time ran out with both sides still at 1-1. Period 3 saw the close checking affair continue until things broke open when the Kings’ David Donnelly finished off an Isaac Vescio effort at 5:40 and drew both sides even at 1-1. A minute later a solo effort by the Raiders Jeremy Schofield took back the lead for his side. Some last minute heroics by Lake Raiders keeper Neil Mercer closed the door to the Kings dying seconds push. Final 2-1 Lake Raiders over Kings.
