TPWHL M.D. Cup Playoffs

With the exciting 2015/2016 TPWHL regular season now complete, the real season begins as the final four teams compete for the coveted 2016 M. D. Memorial Cup and become the next champions. Starting this Saturday, April 9th, the first semifinal matchup features the second-seeded Kings versus the third-seeded Mustangs at 12:30 PM while the second matchup has the Presidents’ Cup champions Lake Raiders facing off against the fourth-seeded Bulldogs at 2:00 PM. The semifinals and finals are all best two out of three series, click here for the entire schedule.

Lake Raiders (1st Seed) vs Bulldogs (4th Seed): This semifinal matchup will feature two feisty squads that will try to move on to the Championship round.

The Lake Raiders are led by veteran forwards Jeremy Schofield, Erin Vassilakos, and Sean Celsie,  along with newcomer Joey Shek who makes his debut in these playoffs. The solid defense core features Steven Davis, Aziza Abdullah and Brendon Myrie. Veteran Goalie Neil Mercer, one of the best in the biz, will be solid between the pipes and is always there to make the huge stops when needed.

The Bulldogs will try to reverse their late-season skid and slay the giant for their shot at glory. The Bulldogs are led by veterans Jerry Mariano and Meghan Hines along with forwards Christine Pacheco, Scott Allen, and rookie Franco Paonessa who makes his debut in these playoffs.  Brandon Hibbs, Tara Gibson and rookie Keon Luc who also makes his playoff debut will provide some solid defense.  Sophomore Keeper Mohit Sharma has had another strong season in net and will give it his all to shut down the Raiders.

Lake Raiders vs Bulldogs

 

Kings (2nd Seed) vs Mustangs (3rd Seed): This semifinal matchup features the Kings and the Mustangs, who both, after just missing the playoffs last year, will look to make some noise this time around.

The Kings are led by forwards David Donnelly, Mike Iacovone, and Isaac Vescio, along with newcomer Kevin Shek who makes his debut in these playoffs.  Brent Lyon, Marcel Adarkawa, and Bryan Rakowski provide the “Big D” on the blue line.  Leo “The Great Wall” Xu will make his presence known as one of the top goalies in the league will be hard to beat.

The Mustangs are led by veteran forwards Nicole Neeson, Istok Vidmar, along with sophomore  Roberto Monteiro and rookie Muntha Ahmed, who both make their debut in these playoffs.  Sergio Correia. Sam Palmiere and Marshall Hohmann will provide a strong wall on defense and Correia can jump up to a forward slot when needed. Seasoned veteran Brad Gordon, is as solid as you can get between the pipes and always comes to play especially in big games.
