Saints advance to finals after comeback victory over Lake Raiders

TPWHL Saints vs Lake Raiders

Saturday April 18th 1:00 pm – 2:00pm. In game three of the 2015 TPWHL semi-finals, it was do or die for both the Saints and Lake Raiders.

Both teams came to play exchanging excellent chances right out the gate, however, it was the Lake Raiders who drew first blood on an Erin Vasilakos (Jeremy Schofield) power play goal at 8:25. The Lake Raiders built on they’re lead off a Jeremy Schofield solo effort at 13:22, taking a 2-0 lead into the second.

The second frame saw the intensity build with both teams pulling out all the stops, looking for that big goal and it came when the Saints Brandy Edwards (unassisted) snapped one in at 4:45, cutting the Lake Raiders lead in half. Anyone who knows hockey will tell you about the dreaded two goal lead, which became a reality as just over a minute later at 5:54 when the Saints drew even off a Brandy Edwards (Braden Martz) goal. Some time later it appeared that the Lake Raiders had regained the lead, however, the goal was waived off as it couldn’t be confirmed by the officials and the 2-2 tie stood. Both sides continued to keep up the pressure and at 9:49 the Saints Don Deschaps (Brandy Edwards, Braden Martz) scored giving the Saints their first lead of the game. The Saints kept the goals coming with a Brandy Edwards (Don Deschaps) hat-trick marker at 11:00. Despite the desperate play of the Lake Raiders, it was the Saints Brandy Edwards, who put what would be the final nail in the coffin with a solo effort tally at 13:50 taking a commanding 5-2 lead into the third.

The final period saw both sides stand tall but ultimately the 5-2 score was the final result, securing the Saints advancement to the Finals against the unbeaten Wolves.

Come on out and feel the excitement in what will be an excellent series, between these two powerhouses. Game one of the 2015 TPWHL finals is set for Saturday, April 25th at 1:00 pm!
