Lake Raiders stymie struggling Wolves

TPWHL Lake Raiders vs Wolves

In their first match up of the 2015-16 season between the Lake Raiders and the Wolves, the Lake Raiders were looking to improve after being dominated by the Wolves 3 games to 1 last season.

The first period saw the Lake Raiders open the scoring early after a solid chance by the Wolves was denied by the Lake Raiders defence, then an open Erin Vasilakos (Jeremy Schofield) pounced on a loose ball beating goaltender Lori Edwards at 3:33. Just over 5 minutes later the lake Raiders would add to their lead with Erin Vasilakos (Jeremy Schofield) scoring her second of the game at 8:40, taking a 2-0 advantage into the second.

The middle frame would see both sides have excellent chances however both goalies were having none of it, then at the 12 minute mark the Lake Raiders found themselves a player short only to get penalized again 50 seconds later giving the Wolves a glorious chance to get on the board, however  it wasn’t to be as Lake Raiders defensive tandem of Brendon Myrie and Aziza Abdullah stood tall making their goalie look good.

The third saw much of the same close play, until the Lake Raider’s Jeremy Schofield (unassisted) was able to thread the needle at 5:00 for the 3-0 lead. The Lake Raiders continued to shut the door on the Wolves while adding a late buzzer beater and preserving the shutout (and late birthday present) for net minder Neil Mercer.
