Received this from someone that works at the City of Toronto which may be of interest to some of you!

The City of Toronto is reviewing the rules that regulate the ground transportation industry – this includes taxicabs, limousines, and private transportation companies (such as Lyft and Uber).

Later this month, the City will host a number of consultations related to the ground transportation industry. Information about consultation dates and times can be found online through the following link:

https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/get-involved/public-consultations/#item/520

If you would like to receive email updates about the review, visit https://www.toronto.ca/home/social-media/e-updates/ to sign up. Go to the “Get Involved in Your Community” section and scroll to “Vehicle-for-Hire Review”. You will receive a confirmation email with instructions to confirm your subscription. There are also a number of other subscription lists if you would like to be involved in other exciting policy files (think Rail Deck Park, the Poverty Reduction Strategy, Cannabis Legalization, and Vision Zero Road Safety).

In May 2016, Toronto City Council established new regulations for the ground transportation industry. As a result, Chapter 546 was created to regulate taxicabs, limousines and private transportation companies (such as Lyft and Uber).

The consultations will provide City staff with an opportunity to hear from the public and stakeholders about the current Vehicle-for-Hire bylaw.

You are invited to provide your feedback, both in-person and online.

In-person: at the in-person public meetings, you will be able to provide input on topics related to the ground transportation industry. The online consultation schedule lists the dates and times of in-person meetings.

Online: in addition, you may provide feedback via email throughout the duration of the review. Please email vehicleforhirereview@toronto.ca at any time to provide us with your written comments.

All feedback received through the consultation session will be used to inform the final report to the Licensing and Standards Committee.

The locations for all of the consultations are accessible to persons using wheelchairs and others with disabilities. Assistive listening devices, materials in large-print and alternative formats, ASL interpreters, and other accommodations will be made available upon request. Please email the Vehicle for Hire Review team (vehicleforhirereview@toronto.ca) at least 72 hours in advance to help ensure availability. The City of Toronto is committed to building an inclusive society and ensuring compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.
